The U.S. Virgin Islands include the primary islands of Saint Croix, Saint John and Saint Thomas, along with tiny Water Island, and other minor islands. The land area of the whole territory is 133.73 sq miles.
The USVI are located in the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, near the 'top' of the Caribbean chain, approximatly 50 miles east of Puerto Rico. The islands are about three and a half hours by air south of New York City, two hours southeast of Miami, FL and 45 minutes southeast of San Juan. The combined land area of the islands is about 2X the size of Washington, D.C.
It is an unincorporated territory of the United States. Even though they are U.S. citizens, Virgin Islanders cannot vote in U.S. presidential elections. The U.S. Virgin Islands is the only part of the United States where traffic drives on the left.
